CGCS UPDATE

APRIL 26,  2008

NEW CUSTOMS AND PRODUCT REGULATIONS FOR CGCS

CUSTOMS PROCEDURES

To facilitate customs clearance and benefit from the duties and tax waiver granted to CGCS participants, all participants are advised of the following:

  • The commercial invoice and packing list MUST be completed for ALL PRODUCTS whether shipped in advance or taken by the participant (on the aircraft).
  • Customs declarations must be completed on line using the electronic Customs System "ASYCUDA" at the port of entry on ALL PRODUCTS.  To facilitate this process, it is strongly advised that exhibitors use a Customs Broker to clear shipment whether shipped or taken by hand.

Participants are also advised that complete details on Barbados' customs procedures will be published in the Exhibitor's Manual and on the CGCS website: www.caribbeangiftandcraft.com.

PLANT AND VEGETABLE MATTER REGULATIONS

The following is a summary of the regulations governing the importation of selected products into Barbados issued by the Quarantine Unit of the Ministry of Agriculture in Barbados.

  • The Government of Barbados has set up a monitoring programme at its ports of entry for the Red Palm Mite, a dangerous insect which affects products made of coconut, banana shag, grass and palm.
  • Products made of grass, banana shag, palm or coconut products e.g. baskets, souvenirs etc. ARE NOT allowed into Barbados.
  • Products made of seeds e.g. jewellery etc, MUST be fully dried and polished.
  • Products made of bamboo and wood e.g. baskets, souvenirs, sculptures, paintings (frames), jewellery MUST be treated with methyl bromide or phostoxin by the relevant authority in the product's country of origin. The bamboo MUST be fully dried since products made of green bamboo WILL NOT be permitted entry. Products made of wood MUST be polished and varnished after treatment.
  • A phytosanitary certificate or a treatment certificate MUST be produced for imported products made of bamboo or wood at all ports of entry in Barbados.  These certificates MUST be presented to the Plant Quarantine Officer on arrival at the port of entry.
